Rachel Horman-Brown
Director & Solicitor
We’re delighted to have received news that Director and Head of Family Law, Rachel Horman-Brown is to be appointed an honorary King’s Counsel (KC).
The title of King’s Counsel has for centuries been a mark of quality, setting apart those who achieve it as the very best of our jurisdiction. The rank signifies the highest regard for legal ability, for diligence, for professionalism and for integrity. The award for Honorary KC recognises exceptional contribution to our legal system outside of legal practice.
In addition to leading our nationally recognised Family Law department, Rachel has made a profound contribution to the legal system throughout her career to date particularly in the area of male violence against women and girls.
She has worked at the forefront of campaigns for domestic violence and stalking legislation; Rachel is Chair of Paladin – the National Stalking Advocacy Service who successfully campaigned to create a specific criminal offence of coercive control and doubled the sentence for stalking. Rachel continues to advise the government and police on issues around domestic abuse and stalking as well as the legislatures in the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland and highlights injustices through her media work.
Honorary KCs are awarded by the King on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, who is advised by representatives from the legal profession, civil service, judiciary and academia.
Rachel will attend a ceremony in March at the Palace of Westminster where she will make a formal declaration to HM The King ahead of being formally appointed.
We’ll catch up with Rachel to discuss this with her ahead of the ceremony.
Managing Director Elton had this to say about Rachel’s outstanding achievement:
