Image-based sexual abuse – commonly referred to as Revenge Porn – is a criminal offence and can be punishable by two years imprisonment, an unlimited fine or indeed both.

This form of abuse takes place when someone shares sexually explicit images of another person without their consent, with the sole purpose of causing harm or distress. This is mainly done through the use of social media channels, SMS messaging or even email. It’s vital to remember that you’re not to blame and you are the sole victim in this situation.

You should report such behaviour to the authorities as soon as you are able.

How New Riverside Legal Can Help

We are able to put clients in touch with professional support agencies and IT experts who can help obtain evidence in such cases.  Often image – based abuse cases are not taken seriously by the police and Crown Prosecution Service.

Here at New Riverside Solicitors, we can advocate on your behalf to ensure not only that charges are brought where possible but that the correct charges are brought resulting in more severe sentencing and protection for victims. We can also assist in obtaining protective Orders on behalf of victims and where appropriate obtaining monetary compensation.
